Shrek 2 is a 2004 American computer-animated fantasy comedy film produced by DreamWorks Animation and directed by Andrew Adamson, Kelly Asbury, and Conrad Vernon. It is the second installment in the Shrek series, the sequel to 2001's Shrek, and features the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Antonio Banderas, Julie Andrews, John Cleese, Rupert Everett, and Jennifer Saunders.

Like its predecessor, Shrek 2 received largely positive reviews and was a blockbuster success. Shrek 2 scored the second-largest three-day opening weekend in US history at the time of its release, as well as the largest opening for an animated film until May 18, 2007, when it was eclipsed by its sequel Shrek the Third. It went on to be the highest-grossing film of 2004. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Film, but lost to the superhero movie from Pixar, The Incredibles. It is DreamWorks' most successful film to date and was also the highest-grossing animated film of all time worldwide until Toy Story 3 surpassed it in 2010; it is now the seventh highest-grossing animated film of all time. It is also the seventh highest-grossing ticket selling animated film of all time. The associated soundtrack reached the top ten of the Billboard 200.

PLOT

Prince Charming arrives at the Dragon castle to rescue Fiona, but instead he gasps in a shock to see the big bad wolf in bed who informs him that Fiona is already rescued and married. Shrek and Fiona have their wedding. Prince Charming also told the story too. When Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz) come back from their honeymoon, they find an invitation to a royal ball with Fiona's parents to celebrate their marriage, an event that Shrek is reluctant to participate in. Fiona talks him into it, and along with Donkey (Eddie Murphy), they travel to the kingdom of Far Far Away. They meet Fiona's parents, King Harold and Queen Lillian (John Cleese and Julie Andrews), the former of which is repulsed by Shrek being an ogre. At a shared meal, Shrek and Harold get into a heated argument over how Shrek and Fiona will raise their family, and about Harold locking Fiona away in the tower. Fiona, disgusted at Shrek's behavior, locks herself away in her room that evening. Shrek worries that he has lost his true love, particularly after finding her childhood diary and reading that she was once infatuated with Prince Charming (Rupert Everett). When Fiona realizes that Shrek left, she asks her dad for help, but he replies that he always wanted the best for her and that she should better think about what is the best for her, too.

As everyone goes their separate ways, Harold is accosted by the Fairy Godmother (Jennifer Saunders) and Charming, who is her son. The two retell the prince's adventures and how he overcame many obstacles and climbed to the highest tower in order to rescue Fiona, but in vain. They reprimand Harold for breaking an old promise that Charming would be able to marry Fiona, and demand that he find a way to get rid of Shrek. Harold arranges for Shrek and Donkey to join him on a fictitious hunting trip, which really is a trap to lure the two into the hands of an assassin named Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas), a famous Ogre killer cat. However, Puss is unable to defeat Shrek and throws up a hairball, and, revealing that he was paid to do this by the king, asks to come along as a way to make amends. The trio sneak into the Fairy Godmother's potion factory and steal a Happily Ever After potion that Shrek believes will restore Fiona's love for him.

Shrek and Donkey both drink the potion then they and Fiona fall into a deep sleep, awakening the next morning to discover its effects: Shrek is now a handsome human, he doesn't know it but he sees three women in front of him, then as he gets up and says his heads killing him. One of the woman gives him a pail full of water and then when he reaches it he finds he has human hands then he grabs the water pail from the girl and sees his reflection and sees he's now a human with a cute button nose, brown thick wavy locks, and top round buttocks. And his clothes are loose because he lost weight. Then the ladies ask him his name he says it's "Shrek" then ask him if he's from Europe. Then he asks them if he seen Donkey Donkey asks "Who's he calling donkey?" So now Donkey is no longer a donkey he now turned into a stallion. In order to make the change permanent, Shrek must kiss Fiona by midnight. When he says look out princess here comes the "new me" his pants fall to his ankles Donkey tells him that they have to get him out of his ogre clothes and into something new. He, Donkey, and Puss see a carrage coming nearby and then Donkey pretends that he got injured by the carrage. Once a man wearing a red shirt with yellow sleeves, a white powdered wig and olive green shorts hears it he orders the driver to stop. He jumps out and then Donkey tells a false statement to him saying he's blind, The man asks Donkey if there's anything he could do for him, Puss jumps on Donkey and orders the man to take off his wig and then guy takes off his wig and then the scdne cuts to Shrek putting on the man's clothes. Puss and Donkey tell him it's not that bad. But Shrek's belly sticks out of the shirt and his sleeves are a quarter of an inch off. But once Donkey and Puss see Shrek is uncomfortable they laugh at him. Then he pulls out a fake whisker off his left side of his lip. Then another man comes out and says "is everything all right? " then Donkey and Puss stop laughing and see the other man, Then he gets scared goes back inside the carriage, but now Shrek feels comfortable wearing the other man's clothes and tells them "Thanks" and "Someday he will repay them." unless he can't find them or he forgets. The 2 men stand there wearing nothing but tan clothes. As Puss, Shrek and Donkey gallop off, Puss falls off the horse and Puss follows them. Then they return to the castle to discover that the potion has also transformed Fiona back into her former, human self. She doesn't know until she gets up and goes over, Uses water to wash her face and then grabs a towel to dry off but once she looks in the mirror she gets a shocking surprise that she's her former human self again. Once she sees it she screams. Shrek rushes in the castle to see her. However, the Fairy Godmother, having learned of the potion's theft, intercepts Shrek and sends Prince Charming to pose as Shrek, deceive Fiona, and win her love. Then Harold and Lillian see him and Fiona and then Shrek to the other window sees them. He keeps yelling her name but the Fairy Godmother says to him "I don't think they can hear us pigeon." At the Fairy Godmother's manipulative urging, Shrek leaves the castle, believing that the best way to make Fiona happy is to let her go.

To ensure that Fiona falls in love with Charming, the Fairy Godmother gives Harold a love potion to put into Fiona's tea which will make her fall in love with next man that kisses her. But Harold replies that it is not possible to make his daughter fall in love in this manner. This exchange is overheard by Shrek, Donkey, and Puss, who are soon arrested by the royal guards and thrown into a dungeon. While the royal ball begins, several of Shrek's friends band together to free the trio and Gingy (Conrad Vernon) tells the Muffin Man to create a gigantantgerbread man named Mongo (Conrad Vernon). Then, Mongo breaks through the castle's defenses so Shrek can prevent Charming from kissing Fiona, but is immediately defeated and killed off when guards keep firing milk at him and Mongo falls into the river, with Gingy jumping on him and mourning for his death, but is instantly rescued by Pinocchio (Cody Cameron). Unfortunately, Shrek is too late to stop Charming; however, instead of falling in love with Charming, Fiona does a Karate yell and knocks him out with a headbutt. Harold reveals that he never gave Fiona the love potion, whereupon the Fairy Godmother attacks Shrek. In the ensuing melee, a spell from her wand, presumably to kill Shrek, Harold jumps in front of Shrek and, then the magic rebounds off Harold's armor. Then it bounces to Fairy Godmother and then it hits her causing her to flip, Then she is glad to see she's not injured but when she tries again, her whole body but her glasses and wand turn into bubbles then oace the glasses and wand hit the ground the star on top faces to black.

(when he commits self-sacrifice to save Shrek) and disintegrates her; it also returns Harold to his true form of the Frog Prince. He had used the Happily Ever After potion years ago to marry Lillian, but she tells him that she loves him no matter what he looks like.

As the clock strikes midnight, Shrek and Fiona let the potion's effects wear off and they return to their ogre selves, while Donkey changes back as well (but is sad to see his stallion self gone). Harold gives his blessing to the marriage and apologizes for his earlier behavior, and the party resumes as the credits begin. However, they're interrupted by a brief after-party scene in which Dragon, who had romanced Donkey in the first movie, arrives and reveals that they now have six dronkey babies. Then Dragon blows a heart shaped smoke towards the camera and then it cuts to black and then Donkey says "I got a new job." Then the other credits appear.
